There can be moments when we require to change your Google account due to several reasons. Frequently because our mail ID may look unusual, confusing, embarrassing, or even just too hard to recognize. As we cannot replace the Gmail ID, all we can do is generate a new Google account, but most of the information like contacts, emails, photos, files from your old account won’t get shifted to a new account.
Although, there is a process for your question that How do I transfer everything from one Google account to another. Good advice, it can take hours or even days to download, depending on the total memory of your data in the account. However, the actual transferring of data will only take fewer hours. Also, there are a few requirements that you require to understand before we go into our topic.
Things to know before transferring data
- There is no automated method that will transfer all your data. You require to do it manually download and import data into the new Google account.
- You can only transfer data like Contacts, Mails, Calender events, Drive files, Photos, bookmarks, etc.Â
- The apps, movies, music, books, etc that you have bought with the Google Play app would not be transferred including the Google Play Balance.
Transferring Data from one Google Account to another
First, create your new Google account. Take time and choose it wisely, because you know transferring Gmail ID often is not a simple process.
Now, login into your old Google account in a new tab. Here, we require to download the data linked with your Google account, this is recognized as Google Takeout Archive and you can add everything to it.
First login to your old Google account, open your Manage your account settings –> Data & Personalisation –> Download your from the Download or Delete section as shown in the screen below.
This page will display all the information linked to your old account ranging from auto-fill, location history, shopping list, to your contacts. Check all the information you want to give and click the Next step button.
Choose file type Zip, select the download address, and click Create export. It may also take more time if you have a lot of data on Google.
Once the export is completed, download and extract the zip file on your computer. This Google Takeout Archive has all the data you need to seamlessly transfer to a new Google account. Once you have chosen the zip, you can find the Google Takeout Archive folder like this.Â
Next, we require to upload these data to the new Google account. However, since Google will not allow you to import all the data at once, so you should import it to each service separately.
Import Contacts to New Google Account
Ler’s start with contacts. On your new Google account, go to Google Contacts, click on the Import option available on the left sidebar. Select the .vcf file in the Contacts folder of the Google Takeout archive. All your contacts will be imported to your new account.
Importing Emails to the New Gmail Account
Technically the Google Takeout Archive has all the emails and contact data from your old account but you would have to use Thunderbird service to import all that data. I find this alternative method more comfortable as you can easily import emails to your new Gmail account from the Gmail Settings page.
To import emails on your new Gmail account, first, open Gmail on a web browser, and log in with your new Google account.
Click on the Settings button in the top right corner –> Accounts and Import –> Import mails and contacts. It will open a new prompt where you have to log in to your old account from the pop-up window.
Once you have completed that, it will sync all the emails, contacts, etc to your new Gmail account. You will also get emails on your old account as well as the new account for the next 30 days. You can also disable this choice in Settings.
Importing Google Drive Files
The files are downloaded as-is from the old Google Drive account and manage the authority as well. This makes carrying the old drive account data to the new account easily. To import files available on your Google Drive first, log in to your Drive account that is linked with the new Google account.
Click on the New option from the top left corner –> Folder Upload and select the Drive folder in the Google Takeout Archive. All your old records will be uploaded to your new google account.
Importing Calendar Events & Remainders
To import Calendar events and Remainders, go to Google Calendar on your new account –> Settings in the upper-right corner –> Import and export –>Â calendar file in the Google Takeout archive.
Select the Import option and all your events, notes, birthdays, goals, etc will present on your new account.Â
Importing Photos to Google Photos
If we discuss the famous Google Photos that are available on your google account, click the upload option available at top of the Google Photos homepage.
Select the Google Photos folder in the Google Takeout Archive and select all the photos contained in that folder. It may take some time to upload based on the total number of photos available. Once that is done, you would have successfully transferred your Google Photos from the old account to the new account.
Importing Bookmarks on Chrome Browser
Next, we will discuss Bookmarks for browsers. To import the bookmarks to your new account, just open your browser –> click the options button on the top right corner –> Bookmarks –> Import bookmarks and settings.
Choose the Bookmarks Document file from the drop-down list and upload the file in the Google Takeout Archive.
Google Takeout will only download the bookmarks that are available on your Chrome Browser. So if you use any different browser, your best chance would be to export the bookmarks manually and then import it to your current browser.
Importing Google’s Autofill Passwords
You can also carry Autofill data from your old Google account. Just open your browser settings –> passwords under the Autofill section just click on import and select the file autofill in the chrome folder of Google Takeout Archive.
If the import option is not available on your browser Autofill page, then you have to turn on the password import flag that is available on the chrome flags.
Changing your YouTube Channel
Coming to the most significant part, the YouTube channel. If you don’t make any videos, then it’s not an issue, but if you have a YouTube channel associated with your old account, then you should be required to transfer the ownership to the new channel.
Open your old Google account, and then go to YouTube Studio –> Settings –> Permissions –> click on Invite and invite your new account ID as a Manager and Click Save.
You will get a new email to your new account, you should accept the invitation once you have accepted, then you are the manager of your channel. You can post videos, invite other people, remove and edit stuff, etc but the only warning is that you cannot delete the channel from your new account.
For that, you will still have to use your old account. You can also change the connected AdSense account to your new Google AdSense account.
